What About Counselling Fees?
At the Door of Hope Counselling Clinic we believe that our fees should be fair and reflect the professional level of the counselling services that clients receive. As part of this, we have carefully considered the costs of providing counselling services in the Port Coquitlam area which is comparable with other service providers.
All of our fees are in accordance with the recommended fee guidelines set forth by the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) and with the Canadian Professional Counsellors Association (CPCA).
The following are the various counselling services we offer and its fees:
Individual Counselling Fees
Our standard fee for individual counselling is $120 per session.
Couple, Marriage, and Family Counselling Fees
Our standard fee for Couple, Marriage, and Family Counselling is $150 per session.
Group Counselling Fee Per Person
We are currently developing various Support Groups that will address a variety of life issues and challenges such as:
(a) anxiety; (e) co-dependency;
(b) depression; (f) boundaries;
(c) grief; (g) addictions.
We will keep our website updated as to the start date of each of these Support Groups. For further information, please contact us at 604-790-9032 or email@example.com.
Reduced Counselling Fees
In order to meet the emotional needs of our community we also offer a sliding scale fee in an effort to make our counselling services affordable to as many clients as possible. Fees range on a sliding scale beginning at $90.00/session for Individual Counselling and $120.00/session for Couple, Marriage and Family Counselling. However, at this time, we are no longer accepting the Application for Fee Reduction; since we have already reached our maximum number of clients that have been offered counselling sessions at a reduced rate. We will keep our website updated as to when we will once again be accepting the Application for Fee Reduction.
In the near future, we will have also counselling services provided by Registered Professional Counsellors (RPC) intern candidates, who will be directly supervised by the Door of Hope Counselling Clinic Executive Director and Clinical Supervisor. This is one of the ways we can make our counselling services more affordable to our community.

Payment is required in advance of the first booked counselling appointment as well as at the conclusion of all counselling sessions. For your convenience, the Door of Hope Counselling Clinic is able to accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, cash, and personal check for payment for all sessions.
Will Insurance Cover My Counselling?
Many people have access to extended health insurance plans through their employers and have counselling coverage as part of their plan. You may be able to use these benefits to cover all or part of the costs of counselling.
First, you will need to check with your particular insurance company and group plan to ensure exactly what type and amount of coverage you have. The plans differ dramatically from one to another so that even within a specific insurance company there will be many different types of coverage.
You will need to ensure that your coverage provides for counselling services provided by a Master Practitioner in Clinical Counselling-Supervisor (MPCC-S) or a Registered Professional Counsellor (MA, MA, RPC). If you have this type of coverage you simply need to provide the receipt that you get from the Door of Hope Counselling Clinic to your insurance company and they will reimburse you at the rate outlined in your plan.
What If I Don’t Have Coverage For An RPC, MPCC-S?
If your insurance plan does have counselling coverage but does not acknowledge the professional counselling services of a Registered Professional Counsellor (MA, MA, RPC) and Master Practitioner in Clinical Counselling-Supervisor (MPCC-S), it may be possible to have your employer make a small change to the insurance plan.
You may wish to speak directly with your Human Resources department and ask that they make an amendment to the company extended benefits plan. Most employers like to increase the amount of benefits that their employees can access, especially when it does not cost the employer any additional fee.
It may also be helpful to craft a letter to your Human Resources department making the request to alter the counselling coverage. Please use the link below of a sample letter that you can use to write a letter to your Human Resources Department.
