If you are unable to meet face-to-face, you might consider telephone or skype counselling.
The Door of Hope Counselling Clinic offers Phone and Skype Counselling as a great alternative to face-to-face counselling. Whether you live in a remote area, are unable to travel, or just feel safer staying in your own space, you can still benefit from counselling.
What Is Skype?
Skype is basically an internet telephone service, which allows you to talk to people for free using a microphone and a webcam. You simply download the software to your computer, install it and then start adding contacts. It will need a webcam, which allows face to face contact with the counsellor and helps establish a trusting relationship. A headset contains both earphones and a microphone, and it helps to improve audio quality on calls and reduce echoes.
Research indicates that the outcome for clients who have undertaken counselling via video link can be similar to those having standard therapy in person.
Advantages of Phone or Skype Counselling
Accessibility: Phone and Skype Counselling can be especially helpful if you have problems with transport, are away from home, live in a remote area, suffer from agoraphobia or have an illness or disability that makes travelling a problem. Phone and Skype Counselling gives you an easy and effective way to access support.
Are you Shy or Introverted? Phone and Skype Counselling is a great way to connect with a counsellor without the barrier of social fears, or trouble meeting new people.
Convenience: Phone and Skype Counselling are great alternatives to face-to-face counselling when you are unable or unwilling to travel to a counselling office. Telephone counselling is not only flexible, easier to access and fit into a busy schedule, with no travelling involved, it also saves time.
Less stressful: If you feel anxious or apprehensive about attending counselling sessions, receiving support from the comfort of your own familiar surroundings can be a more helpful option.
Even though Skype counselling is different from in-office sessions, we treat the therapeutic process the same. We will identify specific targets and create goals so we can measure change. We will focus on creating a safe environment for your therapeutic process. The therapist will try to identify the root causes of the various issues you are experiencing, so you are able to take control of your own life and walk in freedom.
Confidentiality: The Counsellor at the Door of Hope Counselling Clinic will speak to you from a private room, and the usual rules of confidentiality that is applied in a normal one-to-one therapy session will be applied to the Phone and Skype Counselling session. They strive to create a safe space in which they explore concerns together.
